BIOGRAPHY
Ted was born in Denver, Colorado in 1935. His father Luther was a hard working man who gave 40 years of loyal service to a dairy in Denver. Ted's mother Geneva was also a hard worker who had several jobs throughout her life. They had three sons, Ted, Don and Ed. Ted met Roberta Randolph and they began corresponding when Ted was in the Navy for four years just after high school. When Ted finished his service, he and Roberta were married and started their lives in Boulder, Colorado. Soon after, Kurt and Kerry, their two sons were born. At the same time, he was studying and earned his Bachelor Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Colorado. Ted's journey towards his PhD in Music spanned nearly 12 years as he and Roberta raised a family, worked, and went to college at the same time. They eventually moved to Arizona where Ted began his first teaching job at Arizona State University. After completing his Masters at ASU, Ted enrolled at the University of Arizona and began working on his PhD in Composition. While Ted was pursuing music, Roberta became a nurse and worked her way into senior leadership at the health department in Arizona. They remained in Arizona until 1975 when the family moved to Tulsa after Ted accepted a position at the University of Tulsa. You can learn more about his career below.
THEODORE "TED" HANSEN

Ted's wife Roberta lives in their home of 28 years in Greenville, Texas. She is an accomplished pianist herself and still teaches piano to young kids. Their son Kerry, who once was a drummer, also lives in Greenville and works for a theater. Their son Kurt is married and lives in St. Louis and runs a large technology firm. Kurt was once an accomplished trumpet player, and he has also studied the piano, voice and guitar. Ted's brother Don, who was a remarkable saxophone player and business man, sadly passed away from cancer just after retiring. His death had a profound impact on Ted, who in 2002, recorded his Tribute Album of Don's favorite jazz standards. The album is dedicated to Don. Ted's other brother Ed is still alive and lives in California with his wife and daughter. Ed was once a baseball player and he eventually became involved with several churches in leadership positions. He's much like Ted in that he is funny, warm, caring and passionate about life.
