Welcome Everyone
Welcome to our blog where you can share stories, memories and other notes about Ted Hansen. He touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and a number of you wanted a place where you could share. So here it is!
Please feel free to share anything you would like, but please keep it reasonably clean and respectful. In the spirit of what my dad would said...If you came here to complain that you failed a class...you have only yourself to blame for not studying harder. I should know. I grew up studying trumpet, piano and guitar and he didn't cut me any breaks either. I started studying trumpet at a very young age with Tony Picciotto, a former lead player with Stan Kenton. The man was brilliant, demanding and a no nonsense type. One night my dad was waiting for me in the lobby of the little music store where Tony taught. When I emerged from the room, he said to me..."If Hayden had heard that crap, he would have burned the score and taken up a new trade." At the time I wasn't all that thrilled...but I also knew that dad was right. I practiced a lot harder that next week!

Hi all, Texas A&M Commerce is going to be doing a memorial conference on Saturday, May 4th with faculty members performing some of the music he wrote for them. Hope to see you there!
I studied with Ted for many years and he was a great inspiration. I really loved his jokes and his warm heart. His knowledge of theory and orchestration and his ability to teach prepared me for a life of music. Many of us who love jazz often thought of him as the white Oscar Peterson. We will soldier on, but miss you every day Ted.
